The selection committee assessed Hubs based on their capacity, capability, experience delivering behaviour-change programmes, audiences, and networks, and also aimed to support several smaller hubs with the potential to reach new communities.

Georgina Morrison stepped into the Project Manager role recently, building on Rachel Glasier’s excellent groundwork, and is excited to welcome more Hubs into the programme. “This year’s group brings such a great mix of experience and fresh ideas. We’re looking forward to seeing Every Bite land in new communities and spark even more positive change.”

All hubs and the Every Bite core team gathered for an introductory hui in November, held at the Kaipātiki Project EcoHub. This offered an opportunity to connect, share learning, and prepare for the 2026 programmes.

The fact that Every Bite is created by and for the community, and feels accessible, was key a drawcard for new hubs applying.

“We joined Every Bite because we want to be part of the solution to reducing food waste in Marlborough, and the programme aligns perfectly with our zero-waste focus area,” says Envirohub Marlborough General Manager Nina Kay. “We love that the programme tackles food waste right from the top of the waste hierarchy, helping people understand their own habits, experiment with practical tips, and make small changes that create a big impact.

“We’re especially looking forward to building new connections in our community over something positive for the planet, and joining a network of organisations across Aotearoa who are also partaking in the Every Bite programme.”

Year 3 for Every Bite will involve new partners delivering a pilot programme early in 2026, ahead of a coordinated month-long delivery in May 2026 for all hubs.

The facilitated Every Bite Online programme will run again in May 2026 also, delivered by Nicola Turner (Mainstream Green).

The Every Bite programme aims to strengthen local connections, shift habits, and continue reducing food waste across Aotearoa. It is delivered by Zero Waste Aotearoa, and is part of the Ministry for the Environment’s National Food Waste Reduction Programme.
