Over 20 Every Bite programmes happening this May

It’s that wonderful time of the year - yes, feijoa season, but also the lead-up Food Appreciation Month. May 2026 will see the highest-ever number of Every Bite programmes on offer, with over twenty happening around Aotearoa.

Each programme includes a local launch event, simple actions to try at home over four weeks, and a wrap-up session to share and reflect. Take the next step in your sustainability journey, meet others, and save money in the process.

For those unable to attend in-person, Every Bite also offers a free online programme led by sustainability coach Nic Turner, which can be joined from anywhere in Aotearoa. Zoom calls will include a guest appearance by journalist Miriama Kamo, and a cooking demonstration by chef Karl Martin-Boulton.

“Every Bite is an easy, fun way to take action,” says Project Manager Georgina Morrison. “Our food is precious — he taonga ā tātou kai katoa. When food isn’t consumed, we’re also not honouring the water, labour and energy that went into producing it.”

“At these events, you enjoy some delicious kai, build community connections, and pick up some tips with potential to change your habits. It’s totally a win-win.”

Central Otago REAP are one of the new hubs for 2026

With the project’s three-year funded period scheduled to end later in the year and next steps still being determined, this is a great time to seize the opportunity of taking part in the programme.

Every Bite is part of the Ministry for the Environment’s National Food Waste Reduction programme.  It is a collaborative programme designed and delivered by Zero Waste Aotearoa, with the support of members from both Zero Waste Aotearoa and Environment Hubs Aotearoa.
